The EU AI Act

"A balance between innovation and security?"

The EU AI act represents the world first comprehensive artificial intelligence regulations, ruling over a wide set of subjects: key provisions of the AI Act include banning specific AI applications, tight regulations on high-risk use cases and extended transparency and testing obligations. EU member states finally reached an agreement in February, an industry-shifting moment that was highly scrutinized by the business community and met with universal acclaim by EU istitutions; Thierry Breton, EU's internal market commissioner, highlighted that the vote acknowledges the "balance found by negotiators between innovation and security".

What's next? The full plenary of the European Parliament is expected to officially greenlight the agreement on the 10 or 11th of April, setting a precedent for AI governance worldwide. In the next 24 months, after meeting some intermediate thresholds, the AI act will be in full effect. Is your company ready?
